Bambu Lab users face a straightforward choice when swapping build surfaces: stay with the stock textured PEI or try a third-party PEX plate from Wham Bam. The better option comes down to the filaments you print most, the finish you want on the bottom of parts, and how much maintenance you’re willing to do.

Material Composition and Construction

The Wham Bam PEX uses a 0.35 mm custom cross-linked polyethylene layer bonded with 3M adhesive to a 0.4 mm (or 0.6 mm XTR) high-chromium spring steel flex plate. That material lets the plate handle bed temperatures up to 180 °C.

The Bambu Textured PEI starts with a 0.075 mm PEI powder coat on a 0.4–0.5 mm magnetic stainless steel sheet. The texture comes straight from the powder-coating process.

Both plates use magnetic bases for fast swaps. The Wham Bam steel feels noticeably stiffer when you flex it, while Bambu’s plate prioritizes strong magnetic hold.

Compatibility and Sizing
